Museums, science centres and libraries. Pick one or two galleries rather than trying to see everything.
Museums & discoveryRashtrapati Bhavan Museum currently requires a Phase I-focused plan: its official booking page says Phase II has been closed since 6 October 2025 until further notice. The open Stables and Coach House collection introduces presidential gifts, art and ceremonial life through historic objects.

Museums & discoveryJama Masjid combines a monumental red-sandstone approach, a broad courtyard and a working place of Muslim worship. A family visit can focus on symmetry, the contrast between stone colours and the way a prayer space is organised. Enter as respectful visitors, leave room for worshippers and treat nearby food lanes as a separate outing.

Museums & discoveryChandni Chowk is a working market district, not a single attraction with one gate. A family walk can connect the broad historic street with a carefully chosen specialist lane: books and stationery at Nai Sarak, jewellery around Dariba Kalan or spices towards Khari Baoli. The best outing is selective—watch commerce, notice buildings and share one planned food stop rather than attempting every famous shop.
Museums & discoveryHumayun’s Tomb World Heritage Site Museum explains the buildings, craftsmanship and cultural history of the Nizamuddin area beneath the shared heritage arrival landscape. It is a separate indoor experience, useful before the tomb for context or as a shorter alternative to extensive outdoor walking.

Museums & discoveryAkshardham can be a free temple-and-garden visit, a substantial exhibition outing or an evening water-show trip. Those are different family plans. Children can study elephant carvings, follow a young traveller’s journey on a giant screen, pass through cultural scenes on a boat and watch a story unfold through water and light. Choose the parts that suit their stamina and comfort with sound, darkness and queues.
Museums & discoveryKiran Nadar Museum of Art in Saket offers free indoor modern and contemporary art exhibitions, with family workshops on a separate dated calendar. Current October 2026 displays include In-Rhythm and Inheritors of Earth, making line, pattern and plants useful starting points for children.
Museums & discoveryIndia Gate is an outdoor war memorial and a useful first landmark for understanding central Delhi. A successful family visit combines a close look at the arch from permitted public space with a short lawn-side walk; it does not require crossing the entire ceremonial avenue.
Museums & discoveryThe National Gandhi Museum opposite Raj Ghat makes Gandhi’s life tangible through spinning wheels, photographs, personal objects and the history of the freedom movement. A family can follow the story of cloth, a walking stick or a changing life in photographs rather than read every panel. The Martyrdom Gallery contains sensitive assassination-related material, so parents should choose that part deliberately.
Museums & discoveryThe National Museum on Janpath is best approached as a selective encounter with objects rather than a complete survey of Indian history. Start with the Harappan gallery and one contrasting display, while checking the museum’s continuing notices about galleries under renovation.

Museums & discoveryDelhi’s Jantar Mantar is an observatory made of large masonry instruments rather than a telescope dome. Triangles, curves and open cylinders turn the movement of the sky into measurements. For children, the most rewarding visit follows one question—how could a shadow tell time?—then compares the shapes built to answer other astronomical questions.

Museums & discoveryThe Lotus Temple is the Bahá’í House of Worship, welcoming people of every faith to a distinctive marble-petalled building and a quiet prayer hall. For families, the visit combines looking at architecture with practising a short period of respectful silence. The operator currently publishes Tuesday–Sunday 8:30am–5pm, which takes precedence over longer hours on tourism and map listings.
Museums & discoveryWaste to Wonder Park uses scrap metal to reinterpret seven well-known world landmarks in a compact outdoor photo-and-observation circuit. The interesting family question is how discarded parts become recognisable forms, rather than whether the replicas replace seeing the originals.
