Ahmedabad with kids
Every place here is researched for families: how long to stay, which ages it suits, what it costs, and what to check before you set out.
Indoor discovery or active play?
A museum visit, a timed show and a multi-hour play session need different plans. Read the activity and ticket sections before committing to a second stop.
A walk or a whole outdoor day?
A park or waterfront stroll fits a morning; bigger parks and day trips need more time and their own transport plan. Let the weather and the youngest child set the pace.
Museums & discoveryLalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum
Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum offers a quiet, free introduction to Indian art through sculpture, coins, manuscripts, miniature paintings and decorative craft. Children have recognisable things to search for: a dancing figure, a tiny painted story, a coin unlike today’s money or a pattern made from beads. Choose two or three themes rather than attempting every case. The collection is the attraction; advertised workshops are date-specific events, not activities automatically included in an ordinary walk-in visit.

Museums & discoveryVechaar Utensils Museum
Vechaar turns familiar household objects into a surprisingly approachable museum: pots, storage vessels and serving pieces invite children to guess what people cooked, carried and shared before modern kitchens. The collection sits within Vishalla’s village-style restaurant setting in Vasna. A museum visit and a Gujarati meal can complement each other, but they are separate decisions with separate costs and service times. Start by choosing whether your family wants a short collection visit or a longer museum-and-dinner evening.
Museums & discoveryRobotics Gallery at Gujarat Science City
The Robotics Gallery at Gujarat Science City makes machines visible through humanoids, sports demonstrations and practical applications in medicine, rescue and industry. For children, the strongest thread is understanding how a robot senses something and turns that information into movement. It is not a single ride or an unlimited arcade. Admission, VR and several personalised or game-based activities have separate prices, and the working demonstration mix can change.
Parks & natureSabarmati Riverfront Promenade
The Sabarmati promenade gives families a broad view of the river, bridges and changing city skyline without committing to an attraction ticket. Its best use with children is a short walk from a clearly chosen entrance, with time to sit and look. The full riverfront stretches for many kilometres on both banks, so a vague map pin or ambitious end-to-end walk can turn an easy outing into a tiring transfer.
Museums & discoverySarkhej Roza
Sarkhej Roza combines a mosque, tombs, royal buildings and a large historic tank in one stone-built landscape southwest of central Ahmedabad. Families can trace how light passes through carved screens and how buildings relate to water and open space. It is an active sacred place as well as an architectural monument, so a calm, daylight visit works better than treating it as a picnic ground or climbing destination.
Museums & discoveryCalico Museum of Textiles
Calico is a strong choice for an interested older child, not a flexible drop-in museum for every family. Its free, supervised tours introduce remarkable textiles and associated art in the Sarabhai Foundation’s Shahibaug estate. Children under 10 are not admitted on the tours, and a confirmed reservation is essential for planning. Choose between the morning Haveli collection and afternoon Chauk textiles according to the child’s interests; each is a two-hour commitment with strict arrival rules.
Museums & discoveryHutheesing Jain Temple
Hutheesing Jain Temple offers an unusually rich concentration of marble carving in a relatively compact visit outside Delhi Darwaza. Children can compare columns, domes and repeated shrine forms while adults introduce the idea of a living Jain temple. The visit is strongest when kept quiet and focused; it is not a climbing attraction, and photography or access to worship spaces should follow the temple’s instructions.

Parks & natureParimal Garden
Parimal Garden is a free neighbourhood park between Ambawadi and Panchvati, useful when children need green space rather than another long attraction. The appeal is a varied short circuit: a waterbody, planting, small changes in level, a covered brick-pillared walkway and places to pause. Families can combine observation with play, while keeping expectations about individual equipment and evening opening flexible.
Museums & discoverySidi Saiyyed Mosque
Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is a compact but memorable stop for families interested in pattern and craftsmanship. Its celebrated stone screens turn branching trees and vines into delicate silhouettes, offering children an immediate visual puzzle. Allow a short, respectful visit outside prayer times and approach carefully through the busy Lal Darwaja surroundings; this is not a site that needs a long lecture or a hurried road-side photograph.
Museums & discoveryAuto World Vintage Car Museum
Auto World at Dastan Estate is a museum for looking closely at historic cars: long bonnets, unusual lamps, open touring bodies and vehicles built for a different era. A child who enjoys wheels can compare shapes even without recognising the brands. Choose a few favourites rather than trying to study every vehicle. The official current admission is ₹200 per adult and ₹100 per child; rides and photography need a separate enquiry.
Parks & natureKankaria Lakefront
Kankaria Lakefront is a ticketed public promenade with several separately run attractions around it. A family can enjoy a short lakeside walk without buying a large ride package, then choose the zoo, redeveloped Balvatika or another confirmed activity. The lakefront ticket is not an all-inclusive pass. Current boat permissions and the transition to replacement toy trains need particular care when planning; a proposed opening or successful trial is not the same as public service.

Museums & discoveryBai Harir Ni Vav
Bai Harir ni Vav is a stepwell visit built around looking down, slowing down and understanding how people reached water. Its descending stone levels, carved columns and changes of light are memorable for children who can follow careful walking instructions. The Asarwa complex also includes a mosque and tomb. A good family visit does not require reaching the deepest point: an upper-level view and a controlled descent to a suitable landing can explain the design without turning the stairs into a challenge.
