Government Aquarium Cubbon Park: decisions that help families
The former Government Aquarium now operates as Namma Bengaluru Aquarium, with a renovated indoor aquatic visit on the Cubbon Park edge. Use the current operator booking page rather than the old government listing for hours and prices.
Choose viewing before interactions
Start with ordinary tank viewing and see what holds your child’s attention. The paid guide and animal interactions are separate choices; an interested child does not need every extra to have a complete aquarium visit.
Use the operator’s actual date
The old Government Aquarium schedule describes an earlier operation. Check the current Namma Bengaluru Aquarium booking date before coordinating your park walk, especially because weekday and weekend opening times differ.
Government Aquarium’s new identity and what to expect
The workbook name refers to the long-established aquarium at Cubbon Park, not a second separate attraction. Its current operator says the renovated Namma Bengaluru Aquarium reopened in July 2024. The district government tourism page still describes the older freshwater aquarium and older opening hours. For planning, the current operator’s dated booking selection is the stronger operational source. Do not combine the two names into two tickets or expect the old tariff.
This is a useful short indoor animal-observation visit after a park walk. It is not necessary to book every extra to give a child something memorable: watching how a fish turns, hides or keeps position can become the main activity.
The operator describes freshwater and marine displays, a tunnel and habitat-themed zones. Let a child choose a fish to follow for a minute, then compare its movement with another tank. A tunnel photograph can be a highlight, but it should not become the entire visit or a reason to block other visitors.
The operator website contains inconsistent species counts, so this guide deliberately does not promise a number. Living collections also change. Treat named animals and specific displays as things to ask about on arrival rather than a guaranteed checklist. Do not tap glass or try to provoke movement for a photograph.
Aquarium entry tickets and optional paid interactions
The operator booking snapshot retrieved on 1 November 2026 displays weekend admission at ₹118 for adults aged 12+ and ₹47 for children aged 2–11; children under two are free. Two eligible adults and two children total ₹330 for that weekend rate before add-ons. Weekday prices and the selected-date quotation need checking at booking; do not reuse the earlier weekday illustration for weekends.
The same page lists a guided tour ₹400 per person, turtle interaction ₹150, koi feeding ₹60 and starfish interaction ₹150. These are separate choices, not required parts of admission. A child can have a complete viewing visit without handling animals. Ask staff about the protocol, availability and suitability before paying for any interaction.
Aquarium pacing for toddlers and school-age children
A toddler may prefer a handful of tanks and a quick tunnel look. Let them return to an interesting display instead of insisting they see every room in order. A school-age child can compare freshwater and marine habitats or sketch a body shape after leaving the tank. Keep questions observational rather than turning the visit into an exam.
If the child is unsure about dark lighting or an unfamiliar creature, stay at a comfortable distance and avoid pushing them into a paid interaction. Explain that the animals need calm space too. The experience is strongest when the child chooses what to notice.
The current operator publishes weekday opening at 11 am and weekend/holiday opening at 9 am, with 8 pm closing. This differs from the old district listing of 10 am–5 pm and weekly closures. Check the live calendar and any current notice rather than combining incompatible schedules. Tickets are date-specific; the displayed booking terms say non-refundable, with a date change allowed until the previous day.
Navigate to the Kasturba Road aquarium entrance, not a generic Cubbon Park gate. A pleasant park route can still be too long after a tired child has finished the aquarium. Keep the return transport point in mind before adding another attraction.
A detailed current accessibility and baby-care audit was not found. Confirm step-free circulation, lifts, stroller handling and toilets if these determine whether your family can visit. The building’s history as a multi-level aquarium is not evidence that every level has an accessible route. Ask the operator on 6364354836 about your actual requirement.
Eat before entering or use a separately confirmed meal stop; do not assume feeding fish means visitor food is permitted beside tanks. Pair with a short Cubbon Park walk rather than adding both VITM and Bal Bhavan to an already full day. These nearby attractions have separate fees and operating arrangements.

Questions parents ask
Is Government Aquarium the same as Namma Bengaluru Aquarium?
Yes, the operator identifies it as the renovated former Government Aquarium, reopened July 2024. It should not be counted as a separate second aquarium.
Does the old Monday closure still apply?
The current operator publishes weekday hours including weekdays generally, unlike the old district listing. Check the selected date and current notice rather than relying on the historic closure.
What does a weekday family of four pay?
At the retrieved weekend rate, two adults 12+ and two children 2–11 total ₹330. Select your actual date before paying; weekday rates and extras are separate.
Is the guided tour included?
No. The booking page lists ₹400 per person for that add-on, separate from admission.
Must children touch animals?
No. Viewing tanks is a complete visit. Interactions are optional and should follow staff instructions and the child’s comfort.
Are weekend tickets also ₹95?
The current retrieved booking snapshot labels adult ₹118 and child ₹47 as weekend rates. Earlier ₹95/₹30 figures were weekday references. Use the operator date selector for the actual day.
Can we use the aquarium ticket for Bal Bhavan?
No combined entitlement was verified. Treat the aquarium, Bal Bhavan and VITM as separate admissions.
Can we expect every animal shown online?
No. Collections and exhibit operation change, and the site’s own species counts conflict. Ask about a particular display before making it the reason for travel.
