Rainy day ideas for kids

Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park and Planetarium

Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park combines hands-on galleries, an outdoor science environment and a separately ticketed planetarium near Auto Cluster in Chinchwad. Children can investigate how vehicles work, experiment with basic science and choose a seated astronomy or 3D show. The strongest visit leaves time to repeat a few exhibits instead of purchasing every extra immediately. Current official prices distinguish weekdays, weekends, children and adults, and the planetarium, inflatable Taramandal and virtual car drive are different products.

Blades of Glory Cricket Museum

Blades of Glory in Sahakar Nagar brings cricket history close through signed bats, jerseys, balls and equipment connected with famous players. A child who knows a favourite batter or follows a World Cup has an immediate way into the collection. It is a memorabilia museum, so plan for looking, listening and comparing objects rather than a batting session. Choose a few player stories and leave time to ask the guide about the object that most interests your child.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum of Indian History

This privately run FACT museum presents Indian history through illustrated exhibitions and interpretive panels, with substantial attention to Shivaji Maharaj and other historical figures. It is best for families ready to read, compare interpretations and discuss difficult topics together. The museum is in Lohegaon near MMIT College, so plan a deliberate road journey rather than treating it as a stop beside Aundh or the Phoenix mall.

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum makes everyday objects extraordinary: cooking tools, lamps, carved doors and musical instruments reveal the skill behind ordinary life. For families, the best route follows a few familiar activities—making food, lighting a room and making music—before the recreated Mastani Mahal. This is a dense collection in an older multi-level building, so selective looking is more rewarding than trying to read every case. Admission is paid, with child and foreign-visitor categories.

Morya Gosavi Ganpati Temple Chinchwad

The Morya Gosavi Sanjivan Samadhi Temple in Chinchwad offers a focused encounter with Maharashtra’s Ganesh devotional tradition beside the Pavana. Families can combine a respectful darshan with a short look at the temple setting, rather than treating the visit as another garden or amusement stop. The trust distinguishes full darshan windows from afternoon mukhadarshan, so arrival time affects the experience. Use the Samadhi Temple location, not merely the trust’s Mangalmurti Wada office address or a similarly named shrine elsewhere.

Timezone Phoenix Avenue of Stars

Timezone at Phoenix Avenue of Stars combines arcade games with bowling, VR and spinning bumper-style cars in Viman Nagar. It suits a family that wants to choose several short activities or make bowling the main event. The practical advantage is flexibility; the trap is loading more credit than the family needs before checking game prices, child eligibility and the bowling queue.

Joshi's Museum of Miniature Railways

Joshi’s Museum presents a working miniature city through a short narrated show. Trains move through stations and landscapes while smaller scenes reveal the craft behind the layout. This is a model demonstration to watch, not a passenger train ride or a room of toys to operate freely. Its compact length can suit a train-loving child, but the minimum audience and unusual Sunday schedule need attention before travelling.

Shivsrushti Ambegaon Budruk

Shivsrushti in Ambegaon Budruk introduces Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s history through recreated settings, fort models and multimedia presentations. This is a substantial timed visit, not a quick monument stop or a ride park. The current booking instructions ask families to allow about four hours. Choose a session, check the narration language and prepare children for a mixture of listening, looking and walking between presentations.

Darshan Museum Pune

Darshan tells the life of Sadhu Vaswani through a guided sequence of sets, narration, projected images and lifelike figures. It is closer to an immersive story experience than a museum you browse independently. Free admission makes it accessible financially, but families should choose the language and 60- or 90-minute format carefully and ask about emotional scenes before bringing sensitive children.
