Diwali break 2026

Calm, mostly indoor ideas for the Diwali holidays in Mumbai, plus the events on during the break.

Nehru Science Centre building and landscaped grounds

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and most Mumbai schools break for several days around it. Check your school’s calendar for your exact dates.

The festival days themselves are busy: roads and malls fill up in the evenings, and fireworks can be loud late into the night. The easiest plan is a calm outing in the morning, home by early evening, and the big indoor days kept for the quieter weekdays of the break.

Ghatkopar

KidZania Mumbai

KidZania at R City is a child-sized role-play city designed around trying different jobs. It works best as the main event of a day, with children choosing what interests them rather than adults trying to complete a checklist. The operator identifies ages 4–16 as the principal role-play audience and publishes separate toddler options. Its Mumbai pages include activity maps, scheduled activities and temporarily closed establishments. Check these before buying: a much-anticipated activity is not guaranteed just because it appears in an old review. Pricing can vary by duration, category and special-event date.

Lower Parel

Funky Monkeys — Lower Parel

Funky Monkeys is the clearest dedicated soft-play option in this set, based in Todi Mills rather than a shopping mall. Its published rules separate younger children from the junior play area and require active adult supervision. That makes it a useful option for a child who wants to climb and play rather than browse exhibits or collect arcade credits. Plan this as the main energy-burning stop, leaving time to change socks, use the toilet and settle afterwards instead of rushing straight to another attraction.

Sion / Dharavi

Maharashtra Nature Park

Maharashtra Nature Park is an urban nature-learning visit in Dharavi, with trails that make more sense when children are encouraged to observe slowly. The park’s own information describes a main route of about 1.8 km, a shorter middle trail, and a creekside/Ficus route. A family does not need to finish the longest path: ask which open route suits the day’s heat and your child’s walking ability. This is a place for noticing leaves, insects and bird behaviour, with wildlife sightings dependent on conditions. Its official public-holiday closure is particularly important when planning a school-break outing.

Borivali

Sanjay Gandhi National Park

A forest morning, a big-cat safari, a bicycle ride or ancient Buddhist caves: Sanjay Gandhi National Park offers several very different days out. The trick is choosing one main experience, then paying separately for the extras you actually want. The Borivali entrance is your starting point; Kanheri is an onward journey, while guided forest trails need their own arrangements. This guide separates ordinary entry, early-morning walking passes, cycle hire, safari and transport so you can build a day around your children rather than a list of attractions.

Mornings out, evenings in

November mornings are the most pleasant time to be outdoors in Mumbai. Parks and the national park work best before about 11am, before the heat and the crowds. Save indoor places such as museums and play centres for the middle of the day.

On the festival days

Many venues change their timings around Lakshmi Puja and Padwa, and some close for a day. Check the venue’s own page or call before you set off, especially for museums and government-run places.

If your child is sensitive to noise, plan to be home before the evening fireworks begin, and keep ear defenders or soft ear plugs handy for toddlers.
