Rainy day ideas for kids

Indoor and covered places for wet days: museums, play centres and spots with a roof when the weather turns.

Sector 10 Museums & Leisure Valley

Government Museum and Art Gallery

Chandigarh’s Government Museum and Art Gallery gives families a concentrated encounter with Gandhara sculpture, miniature painting and Indian art inside a building designed by Le Corbusier. It works particularly well when children choose a handful of objects to examine closely. The Sector 10 campus also contains Natural History and Architecture museums, but their identities and tickets should be distinguished rather than presented as one unlimited attraction.

Sector 23 & International Dolls Museum

International Dolls Museum

International Dolls Museum at Bal Bhawan is a compact, child-friendly collection built around clothing, craftsmanship and stories. Indian regional and bridal dolls sit alongside dolls from other countries, with narrative scenes and a toy-train model adding variety. It is a looking-and-talking museum rather than an indoor play centre, and its manageable scale makes a short, attentive visit more rewarding than an ambitious museum marathon.

Chandigarh Architecture Museum

The Chandigarh Architecture Museum explains how a planned city moved from an idea to streets, buildings and everyday places. Drawings, models, photographs and original furniture make it a rewarding stop for children who like maps or constructing things. It sits in the Sector 10 museum complex but has a separate admission listing, and its multi-level building requires more access planning than an ordinary single-floor gallery.

Zirakpur · Tricity indoor play

SkyJumper Zirakpur (Tricity)

SkyJumper’s Chandigarh-branded park is actually at Oxford Street in Zirakpur, Punjab. Trampolines and laser tag make it a structured indoor alternative to a long garden or zoo walk, with soft play also described by the operator. The current seller advertises tickets from ₹500 including taxes, while operator activity prices use SkyCoins; compare the exact selected product before assuming a cash price buys every zone.

Rock Garden, Capitol & Sector 3

Capitol Complex and Open Hand Monument

Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex brings together monumental civic buildings and sculptural ideas such as the Open Hand and Tower of Shadows. It is also a working government precinct, so the family experience depends on a permitted guided tour rather than unrestricted wandering. Plan around the official slot, bring identity documents and approach the architecture through scale, shade and symbols that children can observe directly.

Sector 18 & Air Force Heritage Centre

Indian Air Force Heritage Centre

The Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Sector 18 combines aircraft and aviation artefacts with murals, models and technology-based presentations. A family can enjoy the basic museum without purchasing the immersive experience, while enthusiasts may prefer to reserve a session first and build the visit around it. The centre is in the former Government Press building, not at Chandigarh Airport or an operational air base.

Sector 19 & Le Corbusier Centre

Le Corbusier Centre

Le Corbusier Centre occupies the former architects’ office in Sector 19-B, making the workplace itself part of the story of Chandigarh. Photographs, drawings, models and furniture introduce the planning team and its ideas. This is a quieter, more focused visit than a large science museum, and it is particularly useful before looking at Chandigarh’s streets and buildings with fresh attention.
